- I can’t see the prisms – Make sure the arm holding the prism is clicked into place and pointing straight .
- I keep missing the eye – Try looking from the side to get close to the eye, then through the eye pieces for the final ‘push’.
- The patient is struggling to fixate a distant object– Try asking the patient to fixate the back of the eye pieces.
- The patient closes their eyes – Ask the patient to concentrate on opening the other eye.
- The mires are ‘pulsing’. What do I do? – It is safest to take the maximum measurement.
- If the mires are poorly positioned. Do I need to pull off the eye to reposition? – For tiny adjustments no. For larger adjustments, yes.
The mires are too fat – This is due to too much fluorescein. Dab the probe with a tissue and ask the patient to dab their eye.
The mires are too thin. Add more fluorescein.
Dial set too low – wrong edges touching. Turn dial clockwise/away from you.
Dial set too high. Turn dial anti-clockwise/towards you.
Probe is too high. Lower the probe.
Poor position. Move the up and to the left.
